YJB members and families,
First off a HUGE thank you to all the parents and juniors who helped to make our “Roaring 20’s” band banquet a hit! The band really enjoyed the afternoon.
We have several updates to our calendar so please read on!
The big news…
With the help of our amazing band fans, we have scheduled a contest for the Wind Ensemble to get another recording for the Outstanding Performance Series to be adjudicated over the summer, followed by an opportunity for all eligible (grade-wise) band students to celebrate our successes through the year with a trip to Six Flags. The date is May 14th. The Wind Ensemble will perform at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Cost for the trip will be $40. All other fees have been taken care of by our band fans. If you have a positive balance on CHARMS you may apply to the trip cost. Detailed itineraries and medical release (travel) forms will be going out soon. The short version of the itinerary looks like this: leave about 5am and return 9:30pm. Wind Ensemble will perform at 8am in the Meyerson. Then we’ll head to Six Flags until the park closes at 6. We’ll have dinner in their picnic area and head home.
Calendar updates & venue changes
- Leadership audition process will start next week April 27-29. An application form has been sent via Remind for students interested in a leadership position for next year.
- Colorguard auditions are May 5-7. An initial practice session for anyone interested is April 28 4-5:30 in the band hall.
- Evening Of Jazz is April 29 (as scheduled), we will be performing in Bond Auditorium, concert starts at 7pm.
- Spring concert – May 11. We are working on performing at the TSU Fine Arts Auditorium. We are grateful TSU is willing to host our event! Details about audience seating and schedule to follow. We plan to start the concerts at 7pm and we will have our senior recognition that evening. Stay tuned!
Stars and Stripes photos
Each year the wind ensemble pays tribute to our armed services at the end of their concert with the playing of “Stars and Stripes Forever.” We show a powerpoint presentation of our YJB family that has parents/relatives that have served in the armed forces. If you have pictures you would like to add of family members that have served, please email them to me – michael.childs@sville.us – with the following info: Name, branch of service, rank, when & where they served. If there’s an interesting anecdote about their time in the service please include that and I’ll try to add that as best as I can with space allowed for text.
